How to Choose a Duffel
Analyzing how you will use your duffel will help you make a wise choice.
If you travel frequently by airplane and need a bag that is a survivor,
look for strong components, a nut and bolt construction and a tough
ballistic nylon covering. Well-constructed Briggs and Riley duffels
for example are covered by a lifetime no-questions asked warranty that
covers manufacturer's defects as well are airline damage and wear-and-tear.
If weight is an issue, many manufacturers offer exceptionally lightweight duffels.
Travelpro have their TPro Extreme duffels that are much lighter than
regular pieces.
If flexibility is an issue, High Sierra makes wheeled duffels that
have backpack and shoulder straps, as well as wheeled duffels that have
removable daypacks. If you like a combination duffel and suitcase, "drop
bottom" duffels have two compartments. A bottom section where you
can pack clothing flat and in an orderly way and a top section that
can hold all your oversized and awkward items.
Features in duffels that you may want to look for, include wetpacks
that grow as you need them, duffels that fold flat for easy storage,
outside pockets, duffels with a framed base so they stand upright all
the time, a waterproof Teflon coated ballistic nylon covering and carry
handles and shoulder straps in convenient places.
